Tablao de Carmen
Information

About the Show
The Tablao de Carmen owes its name to the famous flamenco dancer Carmen Amaya, who was born in the gypsy quarter of Somorrostro. Amaya made her debut in 1929 for the King of Spain, Alfonso XIII, in the very same space which is now Tablao de Carmen. Both the location and the venue itself offer special details in addition to the flamenco show. Located within the Poble Espanyol de Montjuïc, one of Barcelona´s most important city parks constructed for the 1929 World Exhibition, the tablao shares its grounds with the Fuente Mágica, el Teatro Griego (Greek Theatre), and the Fundación Miró. This area has the feel of a village, with narrow streets, small shops and restaurants.
The venue itself is divided into three spaces, all of which create a typical Andalusian setting for the performances. The main area is the tablao, which accommodates approximately 150 persons and features multiple levels of seating as well as high ceilings. The decoration and colors in the performance area are inspired by the famous Feria de Abril in Seville. Next is an exact reproduction of a "patio cordobés", with all of the details and ambience of the typical homes of Cordoba in southern Spain. Finally, the Freiduría Tio Pepe serves a variety of seafood and other regional dishes along with the typical drink of any Feria: cold fino (sherry).
The Tablao de Carmen was founded in 1988, and features a mix of established and up and coming performers in the Spanish flamenco scene. Two nightly performances last approximately one hour, covering a variety of flamenco styles while individually focusing on the traditional elements of a flamenco performance: the music, song and dance. Ticket packages include the show with drink, tapas or dinner. Special discounts are available for children age 4 - 13 as well as groups. With a reservation in Tablao de Carmen you can enter the exhibition of "Poble Espanyol" for free from 16:00 (4pm) on the day of the show.
